Waitkoff's Word October 16th-20th

I am thrilled with how our candy bag design tasks turned out this week! The class worked so well together in teams and put a lot of effort into problem solving how to build this bag out of limited materials. These young engineers did a fantastic job! We will be moving onto our Native American Social Studies unit soon now that we are wrapping up our Science Unit.

On Tuesday, October 17, the 3rd and 4th graders will be attending Purdue to see the Purdue “All American” Marching Band perform at Elliott Hall of Music from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Busses will be leaving promptly at 8:30 a.m. Students will return for lunch so there is no need to pack a sack lunch. Unfortunately, chaperones will not be needed for this trip. Please encourage your child to wear Purdue attire on Tuesday or gold/black to show that we have spirit.

All conference times have been completed. Thank you for returning your confirmation slip so quickly. I plan to see everyone this coming Wednesday, October 18th or Thursday, October 19th. You and your child may shop at the Scholastic Book Fair before or after your conference. We are also scheduled to go during library time on Wednesday. Please send your child’s money in an envelope with his/her name on it.

Also, on Friday, October 20th, we will be having MONSTER DAY to celebrate the completion of our novel The Monster’s Ring. Your child has brought home a letter asking for help with donations for this party. Please send in your donation by Wednesday, October 18th. If you are unable to donate, please let me know ASAP so that I can make accommodations to our plans.

HELP!! Our electric pencil sharpener in the classroom is broken. I am not able to get a new one so I am asking that parents buy mechanical pencil sharpeners for their kids. You can find them at any store such as Walmart, Target, Office Depot, etc. I ask that sharpeners have toppers on them so that we do not have pencil shavings all over the classroom. They usually cost about one dollar. It would be very helpful if your child could sharpen their pencils at home so that they are prepared for school each day. Unfortunately, my sharpener cost $75, and I am unable to purchase another one at this time.

Lastly, our Super Hero Fun Run is tomorrow, October 15th, at Glen Acres from 3:00-4:30. Invite your family and friends to enjoy the fun Superhero themed activity stations and participate in the 1 mile walk/run. Meet at the circle drive area by the playground. Have a great week!
